Kalamazoo Jail Ministry (KJM) is actively pursuing, with the help of community leaders, obtaining two homes in Kalamazoo County, as part of KJM aftercare. These will be homes that accepted inmate applicants, and inmates that have been called into ministry, can live at for a prolonged time, for an extended time of recovery, study, and meditation on Jesus (prayer).
The first home will be a farm, that accepted inmates can live and work at. The land that KJM is zeroing in on, for this farmhouse, is north of town, and a perfect location for a small specialized farm.
If inmates make it through the first house, they will be eligible to live at the second house, which will be roughly like a Protestant monastery, in a core neighborhood of Kalamazoo.
Both homes will involve the following, for extended times, daily: Bible study, group prayer, housework, personal study and prayer time, and attending the daily house preaching.
The daily work for the men of the monastery house will be working in the house gardens in the morning, and in the afternoon, service to the community, much like we do in the jail ministry, but instead of person to person, it will be person to person in the neighborhood. The gardens of the monastery will be extensive, and will be a gift to the community, for people of the neighborhood to come and pray at, or talk and pray with the KJM men, and so forth.
The work of the men in the farmhouse will be farm work, and jail ministry.
