An inmate inside the jail, who has been very down, due to his predicament in being in jail, had an astounding miracle recently. I had been talking to this inmate extensively through the weeks. He would constantly tell me he was really down, that he was breaking down in his soul, and that his will was destroyed, due to sadness over missing his family, and the mistakes that he’d made. I knew this inmate was under constant supervision, and if there was any risk of self-harm, that this inmate would be helped. But this inmate was not aware of this, and he thought he might be able to commit suicide, if he wanted to, without being seen on surveillance. This inmate did not disclose to me that he was very suicidal, during the weeks that I’d been talking to him. I did not suspect he would be, since he has a family he wants to get out to see as soon as possible. A few weeks ago, through this inmate’s sadness, I prayed with him. We prayed for the LORD to bring a revelation, and some sort of total breakthrough, to the inmate, so he’d be jarred out of his spiraling, and that he’d be so overtaken with Jesus, that only hope, positivity, and passion for Jesus would take over his life, take over his situation, in the jail cell.
KJM works with Reach Sober Living (recovery house), and when all of the suicidal thoughts in the inmate were at a peak, that was on a day that KJM had Floyd and Chris from Reach Sober Living come into the jail to talk to some of the inmates about potentially living at Reach Sober Living upon release from jail or KPEP. I learned that they knew the aforementioned suicidal inmate very well, and in fact, Chris from Reach Sober Living was a mentor of the inmate for years. I learned this when Chris and Floyd said that they wanted to see this inmate, which we did.
So, out of the blue, with no warning, the Reach Sober Living fellas and myself walked around the corner to see this inmate. The inmate was shocked to see his friends, when we walked around the corner and right up to his cell bars. The visit brought an incredible lift to the inmate—but I was not aware of the full story, the week following, when this inmate told me that there was a moment that he made the literal decision to kill himself. He told me that he got off his bed, when he made the decision, grabbed his bed sheet, with the intention of making it into a rope, to tie it to the bars, and hang himself. He said it was all over. But he said that was the exact moment, when he was walking to the bars with his bed sheet, that Chris and Floyd and I walked around the corner to see him.
The inmate said he deemed this, that we walked up at that precise moment, was a total miracle, and the inmate said he was shocked to the core (pricked to the heart, in KJB-style wording), where he could feel it was GOD’s work, His sign. The inmate said he had continued the prayers for breakthrough that he and I had done previously, and the inmate knew this was the answer he was watching for, to verify with him (see John 2:23 and 14:11) that GOD was with him, loving him, saving him, and that everything was going to be ok.
The inmate had hope!
He later reminded me that he and I had read Psalm 34:6 together a few weeks earlier.
This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles (Psalm 34:6).
He told me he’d been meditating on the shocking words and GOD-sized concepts packed in that verse.
He said that he felt this verse, he could feel GOD speaking to him through the verse, after the suicide decision was reversed by the miracle.
