As I type this, millions are outside preparing to watch the solar eclipse. The jail inmates and myself have been talking today about how the eclipse actually proves that GOD exists. It is pretty simple but robust empirical proof; here it goes…
The sun is, we are told, 400 times further away from us than the moon is; and the moon is 400 times smaller than the sun. Look at that nice clean number: 400! Not 401 or 399, not 382 or 422–not any other number, but the nice clean 400. And what this amounts to is that both the sun and moon appear to be the very same size in the sky. They appear the very same size, by that ultra-clean number, 400. Did you catch all that? How could this happen? According to what we’ve been offered by science, to this point, we have no explanation for how this googleplex-to-one event could happen. The “coincidence” (whatever that word means) is too great to be a coincidence. Googleplex-to-one event is a way of saying that the chances that that could happen by chance are too infinitesimal. Only if the sun and moon were created by an all-powerful omnipotent Creator-GOD (YHWH, Theos, Christ) could this happen. It is, I would contend, impossible otherwise.
So, while millions watch the eclipse, few, if any, see the real significance: it is a sign in the heavens, declaring the glory of the LORD:
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Psalm 19:1
